Spring Celebration

Families arrived with scrumptious spring food and fragrant flowers.
We made our way out to our picnic spot, shaded by some friendly trees.
Through the meadows let us walk
See what wonders spring has brought...

The flowers were a beautiful centrepiece for our circle time as we sang our songs of spring.
Then we set to work weaving beautiful flower crowns

Spring is here!Spring is here!
From flowers make your crown.
Place them on your sunkissed heads
Join hands and dance around.
(Old Freedom Train, Shayne Jackman)

The children chose their flowers and mamas helped plait their crowns with green rafia. The flowers were then woven through the plait.

Crowns ready, it was time for the Maypole.
In and out, in and out,
Weave the ribbons tight.
'Round the maypole we will dance,
To the left and to the right.
We wound our way around the maypole to some lively accordian jigs.

The table was laden with fresh, vibrant spring fare for our Spring Feast.

Then it was time for our Magical Bubble Wands.
The children gathered around eagerly to receive their wands.

"Bubbles, bubbles, the most beautiful bubbles we've ever seen
Bubbles, bubbles, lets catch a rainbow dream"
(Susan Perrow)

Who can resist the magic of bubbles?

Finally we ended our beautiful morning with outside Storytime.

Winter Solstice Celebration

Well, I know its a little late (ok a lot late), but as they say better late than never....

In the weeks leading up to our Winter Celebration we told the most beautiful story of "The Seed Babies Light" (see the winter issue of Star Weavings).
We made our own window stars to bring the light into our lives.
And the children eagerly helped gather wood and kindling in anticipation of our solstice bonfire.
On the morning the children rolled their own beeswax candles and cored their own apple to hold their candle in. (some apples didn't make it very far - they just looked too delicious!)

As our name was sang, we lit our candles from the light at the centre of our spiral walk.
The children used their candles from the spiral walk to light our bonfire, then added some special items which they had each brought along.
Then some seasonal winter songs around the bonfire.
Before finally tucking into some hearty warming winter food!
Casseroles, soups, rice, quinoa, crusty bread, and of course some yummy pumpkin scones.
What a nourishing and heartwarming morning.

Spring Celebration

Finally the weather gave us a break, and we were able to hold (although a little belated) our Spring Celebration. Mother Nature blessed us with a divine spring morning, in the words of Margaret Wise Brown "The sky was wild with sunshine" and the garden full of spring blooms.

We set off to find a perfect picnic spot.

Through the meadow let us walk
See what wonders spring has brought
Skipping skipping let us go
As the breeze blows to and fro

The children recieved their crowns and wands with a sprinkle of glitter and a magic verse

A faery crown and a faery wand
A sprinkle of faery glitter
You become a faery Queen/King
Flutter flatter flitter

Then time to walk and skip around the maypole as we sang some simple maypole songs

A delicious spring feast fit for Faery Kings and Queens

We planted seeds of beans, marigolds and sunflowers, the seeds of which we collected last Autumn.

And the creation of our Garden Goddess (lady scarecrow) complete with magic wand, to protect our wonderful new vegetable gardens

And finally the face behind the camera, one of our wonderful mums Cat, who took these gorgeous pictures for us. It was so hard to choose which photos to include! Check out her site www.celebrationstudios.com

What a beautiful morning we had!

Craft Night

Here also are our Spring Maidens from our craft night a few weeks back. They all looked so beautiful, a look just lovely adorning our nature tables.
